Alright, we all know that Victor Wembanyama is one of the most talented young superstars we have seen play basketball. He stands the height of a center at 7 foot 4 inches with the ball handling ability like a point guard and can stretch the floor out and shoot from the perimeter like a shooting guard. He has definitely come into the NBA with a lot of hype and he has definitely delivered. He was both the youngest and first player to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award unanimously. However, all that being said could he be the next “new” face of the NBA?

Let’s start this article off by saying Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs are currently facing the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals (Thunder up 3-2). That being said, whether Wemby (Victor Wembanyama) and the Spurs beat the Thunder or not I do not think that will change the answer to the question, “Is Victor Wembanyama the new face of the NBA?” I think we can all agree that the time for LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Nikola Jokic, and even Giannis Antetokounmpo are not necessarily the prime candidates to be the face of the NBA. We all know the game of basketball is getting younger and younger each year in search for the new face of the league for the next 10 years or longer.

Personally, I think Wemby is that guy. He is a one of kind talent with his size and skill along with his calm demeanor and competitive spirit. The NBA has had great talent from the international leagues for instance: Luke Doncic, Nikola Jokic, and Giannis Antetokounmpo just to name a few. While all those players are great NBA superstars, Wemby simply put is an alien doing things we thought as fans that could not be done! He has instantly became one of the most dominant basketball players right now and he is only 22 years old, which is unreal. Like I said before in this article, I do not think it matters win or lose to the Thunder (or the Finals) but if Wemby and the Spurs win the Western Conference Finals and end up beating the New York Knicks in the Finals to secure the NBA Championship he will easily become the new face of the NBA. No doubt about it!
However, I do have one player that could argue being the new face of the NBA. Who is that player? Anthony Edwards from the Minnesota Timberwolves definitely has the talent, demeanor, and competitive attitude to be the guy. Ant Man (Anthony Edwards) has now been in the league for six years already and is only 24 (2 years older than Wembanyama) while Wemby has only been in the league 3 years. Edwards is an elite scorer from all three levels and is a lockdown perimeter defender. He is one of the talented young stars in the league and definitely has proven his spot in the conversation for the NBA’s new face.

In ending, personally if we are picking between Anthony Edwards and Victor Wembanyama to be the new face of the NBA. I strongly believe it is going to be Victor Wembanyama, no shade or disrespect to Anthony Edwards who I love watching play, but man Wemby is just something special that we may never see again in the future. Wemby has too many intangibles that you cannot beat, plus being drafted to the Spurs with all their historically legendary players, coaches, and system kind of solidifies the argument to me. The NBA’s future is in great hands with players like Jason Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Anthony Edwards, Cade Cunningham, Tyrese Maxey, Cooper Flagg, Stephon Castle, and Scottie Barns with Victor Wembanyama leading the league. Yes, I will definitely be tuning into the NBA for the next 10 years. Cheers to the NBA, the next generation of basketball players have arrived!
